Dr Naveen Vankadari is a Beamline Scientist (Industry Specialist) across the structural biology beamlines at the Australian Synchrotron (ANSTO). In his role, he works closely with industry partners and visiting researchers to support cutting-edge synchrotron-based research, applying structural biology tools to address high-impact biotechnology challenges.
Naveen completed his PhD in 2016 at Academia Sinica and National Defense Medical Center in Taiwan (in collaboration with the NSRRC), specializing in protein biochemistry and structural biology. His research career spans both academia and industry. Prior to joining ANSTO, he was a Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne (2022–2026), following a research fellowship at Monash University (2017–2022) where he led a structural virology team focused on host-pathogen interactions. Earlier in his career, he worked as an R&D Scientist at Merck Bio-Tech in India (2005–2009), contributing to the development of in vitro diagnostics and recombinant enzymes.
His research expertise includes X-ray crystallography, single-particle cryo-EM, cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), Small-Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS), protein biochemistry, and structure-guided drug discovery. His contributions to the field include over 35 peer-reviewed publications (H-index 16, and over 1,750 citations) and more than 30 international awards. He is also actively engaged in commercialization and industry translation through programs such as Australian BridgeTech and CSIRO ON Prime, and been a consultant for BioTech/BioPharma companies.
Naveen is dedicated to leveraging his background in academia and industry to support the MX team, SAXS and the broader Australian Synchrotron community, fostering collaborative relationships and guiding users to deliver real-world outcomes in biotechnology and health research.
