Defence and aerospace
Defence requirements push your technology, we can help. ANSTO is home to some of Australia’s most important landmark research infrastructure – more than $1.3bn of it. Our unique capabilities are used by thousands of Australian researchers from industry and academia every year.
ANSTO's neutrons will help miners see what's inside drill cores with new clarity
The mining industry is set to benefit from a new Australian capability that uses a nuclear scanning technique to detect the presence of precious metals and strategic minerals in a core sample.
Scalable graphene growth on a semiconductor
The growth and incorporation of graphene into semiconductor device architectures has been limited by challenges related to the quality, reproducibility, and high process temperatures required to grow it on suitable substrates.
Industries
For more than half a century, ANSTO's specialised services have supported the unique requirements of customers working in health, agriculture, defence, mining, nuclear medicine and more.
ANSTO scientist and technical specialist recognised at Users Meeting
Professor Elliot Gilbert and Dr Norman Booth have received awards from the Australian Neutron Beam Users Group at the 2021 ANSTO Users Meeting
ANSTO Celebrates its Incredible Women in Science
ANSTO is privileged to be home to an incredible array of outstanding women in science. On the International Day of Women and Girls in Science we wanted to thank each one. Thank you!
Silicon irradiation
ANSTO is one of the world's leading providers of irradiation services for silicon ingots, which are used by the multimillion dollar electronics industry across Europe and Asia. Each year, ANSTO irradiates more than 50 tonnes of silicon.
Procurement Policy
ANSTO's procurement policy is closely aligned with the Commonwealth Procurement Guidelines and makes use of the Australian National Audit Office guidelines on ethics, accountability and transparency.
Project highlights
The Minerals consultancy group at ANSTO has expertise in chemical engineering, metallurgy, mineralogy, chemistry, geology, and radiation safety. We can support our client's project by providing process development services, technical review, and research.
Investigating the impact of radiation and radioactive contamination on forensic trace evidence
Advanced method to improve stability of spray dried microcapsules for delivery of nutrients
Role at ANSTO
First neutron topography on Dingo
Mineralogy Facility
Our dedicated mineralogists provide specialised knowledge on the mineralogy of ores/concentrates and the wide variety of solids and residues typically generated in hydromet processes. We have well-equipped facilities that can handle a diverse range of samples, particularly those containing elevated concentrations of uranium and thorium.
Research explores how the magnetic moments of atoms in materials are arranged and interact
The unique magnetic properties and nontrivial quantum effects were observed and measured in an advanced material with potential application for quantum computing.

Nuclear techniques bring new insights into food
Research explores how structure contributes to function in food
Understanding corrosion in concrete sewer pipes
Using neutron imaging techniques at ANSTO, researchers from Macquarie University have gained a better understanding of how corrosion forms and spreads through concrete that is commonly used in sewer pipes.
Aerosol Sampling Program
ANSTO plays a leading role in measuring and characterising fine particles from a range of locations around Australia and internationally.
