Monash University, University of Queensland and Australian National University researchers have used ANSTO’s Australian Synchrotron in their study of meteorites found on Earth that could be used in future to find evidence of life on the planet Mars.

Australia launched a new international development project in partnership with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to advance ‘Rays of Hope’ in the Asia and Pacific region. 

The Australian Synchrotron is a source of powerful X-rays and infrared radiation that can be used for a wide range of scientific and technical purposes. Synchrotron X-rays are millions of times brighter than those produced by conventional X-ray machines in laboratories and hospitals.

ANSTO is Australia’s nuclear centre of excellence. It has a mandated role to advise the Australian Government on all nuclear and science technology matters.
