The ANSTO Graduate Program is designed to develop and nurture the next generation of Australian science, engineering and business professionals. The program provides a structured learning and development experience, enabling graduates to build the capability, networks and experience required for a successful career contributing to national priorities in nuclear science and technology.

About the program

This two-year program provides graduates with the opportunity to build strong foundational capability through a combination of:

  • on the job experience
  • structured learning and development
  • mentoring and support

Graduates complete four rotations, gaining exposure to different teams, projects and environments across the organisation, while developing core technical and professional skills aligned to their discipline and career pathway.

Study Requirements

The ANSTO Graduate Program is open to applicants who have recently completed, or are in their final year of, a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline. 

The program is designed to support applicants at the beginning of their professional careers and focuses on building foundational capability through structured development.

Can PhD graduates apply?

While PhD graduates are not formally excluded from applying, the ANSTO Graduate Program is designed for early‑career, entry‑level development and is generally not well aligned to applicants with significant postgraduate or research experience.

Applicants should consider whether the program structure and focus align with their experience level and career goals before applying.

Which disciplines are available?

Graduate opportunities are offered across scientific, engineering and corporate disciplines aligned to ANSTO’s future workforce needs. Available disciplines vary by intake and are outlined in the current vacancies.

Do I need to be an Australian citizen?

Yes. Applicants must be Australian citizens at the time of application.

Is there an age requirement?

No. There is no age restriction for our Graduate Program. Applicants are assessed based on eligibility criteria, qualifications and suitability for an early‑career development program.

When does the program start?

Our 2027 Graduate Program will commence in February 2027. Specific start dates will be confirmed with successful applicants during the offer process.

How long is the Graduate Program?

The ANSTO Graduate Program runs for two years and typically includes four six-month rotations.

How do rotations work?

Graduates generally complete four six-month rotations over the two‑year program. Rotations provide exposure to different teams, projects and environments across ANSTO, supporting the development of broad technical and professional capability.

What training and development is provided?

Graduates receive a structured learning and development experience, which includes:

  • on the job learning
  • formal development activities
  • mentoring and support from experienced professionals
  • opportunities to build technical, professional and workplace skills
Am I offered permanent employment?

Yes. Graduates are employed on a permanent basis. Continued employment beyond the two-year program is subject to successful completion of the Graduate Program.

Is relocation support available?

Yes. Relocation support is available to applicants who are required to relocate for our Graduate Program, subject to ANSTO’s relocation guidelines and individual circumstances.
