Supporting provenance for Aboriginal products

ANSTO’s nuclear and isotopic analytical techniques have been used to ensure that traditional Aboriginal products, such as the Kakadu Plum, are authenticated as part of a project in partnership with Northern Australia Aboriginal Kakadu Plum Alliance (NAAKAPA)

Indigenous bushfoods

ANSTO has developed a powerful new method to verify the origin of food from seafood and meat to fruit, vegetables, grains, and even coral.

Authentication is possible because plants and animals absorb a unique chemical and isotopic “fingerprint” from their environment.

It uses nuclear and isotopic techniques with machine learning to decode environmental fingerprints and accurately verify origin and production methods with over 85% accuracy

A portable handheld X-ray technology developed by ANSTO enables rapid product scanning and verification.

We’re looking to collaborate with research groups, government bodies, industry leaders, and commercial partners who want to:

  • Build trusted traceability systems
  • Verify product origin for import/export
  • Protect brands and markets from fraud
  • Boost consumer confidence
