Program

The MX beamlines at the Australian Synchrotron and the Society of Crystallographers of Australia and New Zealand (SCANZ) will be running a 3 day in-person crystallography school and workshop on Monday 13 - Wednesday 15 October at Clayton. This will be preceded by 2 days of online lectures of crystallography theory from SCANZ. The workshop will cover tutorials on symmetry, processing and refinement, and lectures and hands-on sessions on sample preparation, data collection, processing, and publishing. We will also cover some non-standard and emerging techniques such as processing data with the DIALS software, variable temperature experiments, and carrying out a fragment screening experiment.

The workshop will also be an opportunity to learn how to use the new MX3 beamline, which will be coming into user operations throughout the rest of 2025. As part of the workshop, we will also ask each participant to give a very short presentation (2-3 minutes) about why they use crystallography for their project, and the challenges they have faced. This will allow the beamline scientists to better understand the needs of the user community.

The workshop will be limited to 45 participants, who will be selected via an expression of interest submission.

EOIs close on the 29th August at 5:00pm AEST.

Successful applicants will be notified by 3rd Sept, and registrations close on the 12th Sept.

Registration cost:

$100/120 for students/ECRs (SCANZ member/non-member)

$120/140 for others (SCANZ member/non-member)

Registration cost includes 3 lunches, 2 evening meals (BBQ and pizza), morning and afternoon teas.

Subsidised accommodation (2 nights) will be available to be booked at the time of registration. Travel to and from the synchrotron will be responsibility of the participant, however external travel funding may be available (more details to follow).
