About the internship

The ANSTO Year in Industry Internship provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nuclear science and technology while contributing to meaningful projects across the organisation.
This structured internship enables students to develop practical capability aligned to their field of study while gaining exposure to ANSTO’s unique research, technical, operational and corporate environments.
Interns are embedded within a team and supported through:
•    on-the-job experience on meaningful projects 
•    exposure to operational and research environments 
•    guidance from experienced professionals 
•    structured support from their Host Supervisor and ANSTO Program Lead

Disciplines

We recruit students from a range of disciplines aligned to ANSTO’s workforce needs. Opportunities may include science, engineering, technology, business and corporate disciplines and will vary by intake. •    generally be in their penultimate year at the time of application 
•    be able to undertake a full-time internship for 12 months 
•    be able to defer study for the duration of the internship
•    be Australian citizens at the time of application

What disciplines are eligible?

Eligible disciplines vary by intake and are based on ANSTO’s workforce needs. Opportunities may include science, engineering, technology, business and corporate disciplines. Applicants should refer to the relevant job advertisement for the specific disciplines being recruited for that intake.

Do I need to be an Australian citizen?

Yes. Applicants must be Australian citizens at the time of application. International students are not eligible to apply.

When does the internship start?

Start dates vary depending on the intake. Specific details will be outlined in the job advertisement, but internships typically commence in January or February.

Is this a paid internship?

Do I need a university placement agreement?

No. The Year in Industry Internship is not managed as a university placement agreement. Students are generally required to defer their studies to undertake the full-time internship and may be asked to provide evidence of this. 

What will I work on?

Interns contribute to meaningful work aligned to their discipline, team and project area. Projects vary by intake and may involve research, technical, operational, engineering, technology, business or corporate activities.

What support will I receive?

Interns are supported by their Host Supervisor and ANSTO Program Lead throughout the internship, with guidance from experienced professionals and opportunities to build workplace capability.
