Role at ANSTO

Dr Dan Gregg is the manager of the Wasteform Engineering Team, a section within ANSTO Synroc. The team specialises in the research and development of candidate materials or ‘wasteforms’ to support the safe and efficient disposition of nuclear wastes with a focus on problematic nuclear waste streams. The team studies glass, glass-ceramic and ceramic materials, to immobilise radioactive wastes using ANSTO’s Synroc Technology.

Dan’s area of expertise is in wasteform design, fabrication, characterisation, and performance assessment. He has led the Synroc Wasteform Engineering Team since 2015, successfully negotiating multimillion dollar commercial contracts, as well as providing engineering deliverables to ANSTO’s SyMo project for Mo-99 production wastes. He is also responsible for engaging the wider international scientific community on the benefits of ANSTO Synroc Technology.

Dan has an extensive track record with publications on topics such as the immobilisation of radiopharmaceutical or plutonium wastes, as well as several invitations to present at international nuclear waste management conferences and client engagement meetings as an expert in ANSTO Synroc.

Dan is committed to ensuring that ANSTO Synroc remains a world leading nuclear waste treatment technology and is successfully implemented for a variety of problematic waste streams around the world.
