Role at ANSTO

Dr James Hester is an instrument scientist for ECHIDNA, the High-Resolution Powder Diffraction beamline at OPAL. After obtaining his PhD from the University of Western Australia in the area of inorganic electron density study, he moved to Tsukuba, Japan to undertake postdoctoral work. A few years later he joined ANSTO as a synchrotron instrument scientist at the Australian National Beamline Facility, also in Tsukuba. In April 2007 he returned to Sydney to join the OPAL diffraction group. James's research interests include accurate electron density study, crystallographic data standards, scientific programming, and novel inorganic structures.
