These stage-based workshops help primary school teachers effectively address digital technologies outcomes in the NSW K-6 Science & Technology Syllabus, with a focus on developing children’s computational thinking problem solving capabilities.

  • Stage 1 - Bluebot, Makey Makey, Scratch Jr
  • Stage 2 - Scratch; WeDo 2, Makey Makey
  • Stage 3 - Microbit, WeDo 2/Mindstorm EV3, Scratch
Digital Technologies Jump Starter Workshop

 

Workshops offered as 2-hour twilight sessions and will:

  1. Establish key digital technologies outcomes being targeted within the NSW & Australian Curriculum
  2. Discuss foundational concepts and pedagogies (computational thinking, algorithmic thinking, pattern recognition, abstraction, systems thinking)
  3. Provide extended time on focused hands-on workstation activities using the technologies
  4. Offer some time for teachers to collaboratively design and share lesson ideas
  5. Provide extensive links to key resources (e.g. DigiTech Hub, CSER MOOC, etc)
  6. Outline next steps (5hrs to refine & implement lesson, report-back via project website)
  7. Brief workshop evaluation

Completing a Digital Technologies Jumpstarter Workshop will contribute 7 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Registered PD addressing 2.6.2, 3.4.2, 6.2.2, 6.3.2  and 6.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
