ANSTO's Dr Katie Sizeland will be competing in the Semi-FINAL of FameLab NSW at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney on Wednesday 10 April from 6-9pm.  FameLab is a global science communication competition targeting early career researchers.

Katie will be highlighting her work on the nanostructure of one of nature's building blocks - collagen.

She uses techniques at the Australian Synchrotron to investigate the nanostructure of collagen. Katie’s research explores collagen in leather and medical materials like replacement heart valves and medical scaffolds and aims to understand their hierarchical structure to create stronger medical materials and optimise patient outcomes. Katie is also passionate about science outreach and communication and hopes to inspire the next generation in STEM.

Presentations will be judged according to FameLab’s 3Cs – content, clarity, and charisma – by an esteemed panel of media professionals, and public figures.  The event will be hosted by the ABC's Dr Karl.

Winners of the final are flown to Perth to represent their state at the National Final of FameLab on May 8th. The winner of the national final then travels to the UK to represent The event is being hosted by  Australia against 32 other countries at the Cheltenham Science Festival in June.
