Professor Peter Lay from the University of Sydney has been awarded the Australian Synchrotron Lifetime Contribution Award by ANSTO, the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation.

ANSTO’s Centre for Accelerator Science has been selected as a partner facility in RADNEXT 2030, a major European initiative that provides researchers and industry with access to radiation testing infrastructure for electronics.

The newly built Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre (MMIC), co-located at the Australian Synchrotron at Clayton, was officially opened on Wednesday by the Victorian Deputy Premier and Minister for Medical Research the Hon Ben Carroll.

Although Australia does not use nuclear energy for power needs, it does have the nuclear capabilities, knowledge, and expertise provided by ANSTO to ensure the national interest in nuclear matters is protected and advanced.

ANSTO is a major supplier of Australia’s radioactive isotopes used in nuclear medicine, delivering around 10,000 patient doses each week.  Health-based research and development in Australia and overseas also benefit greatly from ANSTO’s unique capabilities and expertise in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease using nuclear and accelerator infrastructure.​

ANSTO is now accepting applications for three Director positions within the Nuclear Science and Technology group: The Director of the Nuclear Materials Research and Technology Group, Director of Environment Research and Technology Group and Director of the Health Research and Technology Group.
