Total Fluorine Analysis

ANSTO offers accelerator-based particle-induced gamma-ray emission techniques to determine total fluorine concentration in a range of solid materials and rapidly screen for the presence of PFAS (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances).

Group Executive Nuclear Science and Technology

Andrew Peele was appointed Group Executive for ANSTO Nuclear Science and Technology in July 2021 and was Director of the Australian Synchrotron from 2013 -2021. He is an adjunct Professor of Physics at La Trobe University.

ANSTO is engaged in international partnerships in the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology throughout the world.

Meet an Expert

Let your students lead a 30-minute Q&A session with our ANSTO experts about one of the following three topics:

- Nuclear medicines
- Nuclear techniques to study the environment
- Fission and its applications in reactors

Our staff are experienced science communicators and can discuss ANSTO's research with secondary classes at an appropriate level of detail.

Please ensure your students do some pre-reading about the research topic and come prepared with questions to ask during the session. We also ask that teachers send us a copy of the student questions the day before, so we can adequately prepare for your session.

Teachers must be present during the session with their students.

ANSTO STEAM Club for Girls

The program combines engaging hands-on experiments and activities with inquiry-based learning to inspire curiosity and help support the development of problem-solving in girls.

Enthusiastically delivered by our qualified female educators, the program will provide a supportive environment to encourage girls to become confident and active learners.

The program will also incorporate a tour of ANSTOs important science and engineering facilities in Sydney to reinforce interest in STEM. Participants will have the opportunity to meet some of Australia’s leading female scientists and engineers!

The STEAM Club for Girls builds on the success of the online STEAM Club program that engaged students across Australia from 2020 to 2023.
