ANSTO is a highly regulated organisation. Our governance system and processes provide critical guidance to effectively manage ANSTO’s activities. This section outlines the processes and systems that are in place to provide assurance to Government, our stakeholders and the community that we are working within our regulated and mandated requirements.
ANSTO has warmly welcomed the official launch of the Monash Precinct Network by Victorian Member for Ashwood, Matt Fregon MP at a special event at the Australian Synchrotron.
ANSTO operates a range of cobalt-60 gamma irradiators, providing the Australian community with a range of irradiation services for medical, health, industry, agriculture and research purposes.
The need for a smaller, more transportable version of ANSTO’s 1500-litre atmospheric radon-222 monitor, and with a calibration traceable to the International System of Units, prompted the team to develop a 200-litre radon monitor that would meet those needs.
Radiocarbon dating capabilities at the Centre for Accelerator Science have provided evidence of a 17,300-year old painting of a kangaroo from the Kimberley region.
A cross-disciplinary team has used laboratory-based and synchrotron-based infrared spectroscopy imaging techniques to monitor the waxy surface of living plant leaves in real-time to gain insights into plant physiology in response to disease, biological changes or environmental stress.
The Infrared Microspectroscopy beamline combines the high brilliance and collimation of the synchrotron beam through a Bruker V80v Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometer and into a Hyperion 3000 IR microscope to reach high signal-to-noise ratios at diffraction limited spatial resolutions between 3-8 μm.
ANSTO provides a range of radiotracers for pre-clinical and clinical research using the OPAL multipurpose reactor. Users can access more than 300 known radiotracers. If a starting material is provided, new and non-commercial radiotracers can be produced.
