Advanced Diffraction & Scattering Beamlines (ADS-1 and ADS-2) UNDER CONSTRUCTION
The Advanced Diffraction and Scattering beamlines (ADS-1 and ADS-2) are two independently operating, experimentally flexible beamlines that will use high-energy X-ray diffraction and imaging to characterise the structures of new materials and minerals.

John is currently one of two co-Directors of the Health Research and Technology Group at ANSTO.
He is Director of the ANSTO node of the NCRIS National Imaging Facility and is a member of the NIF Scientific Advisory Committee.

Transistors and NASA's radiation paradox: strength in detection, weakness in space operations
The nature of Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field Effect Transistors (MOSFETs) present a fascinating paradox in space exploration. Their strength in radiation detection becomes their weakness in space operations, exposing an Achilles' heel for NASA. Yet, these same devices monitor radiation doses received by humans on earth and in space.

Amanda has been at ANSTO since November 2022 and is responsible for overseeing ANSTO’s Risk & Assurance function, advising and reporting on a broad range of organisational risks and threats, including those associated with nuclear operations.&

Animal care and ethics
ANSTO as a leading science research organization in Australia is committed to the ethical, humane and responsible care of animals used for scientific purposes.
Potential true theranostic agent for cancer produced
Scandium 47, a therapeutic radioisotope and potential theranostic, has been produced for the first time at ANSTO. Theranostics are used to both diagnose and treat disease.

Successful synthesis of nano-material that improves catalytic converter efficiency.

Radiation Monitoring
ANSTO continually monitors environmental gamma radiation from a station located in Engadine NSW. ANSTO uses environmental radiation data to evaluate atmospheric dispersion from its site. This radiation is almost completely natural background radiation.
The risks posed by stormwater runoff can be monitored with thin-film technology
A large collaboration of Australian and New Zealand researchers has established that a thin film technology can be used to monitor stormwater effectively and provides a way to translate the presence of metal contaminants into potential risks to aquatic ecosystems.
