The outcome could have significant implications for better monitoring, management and remedial action of groundwater globally.
Originally from Switzerland, Dr Häusermann gained his PhD in x-ray diffraction and synchrotron techniques at King’s College London.
Measurements of the naturally-occurring radioactive gas radon can be used to accurately categorise the degree of atmospheric mixing.
A large group of ANSTO environmental scientists and collaborators have produced the first groundwater stable isotopes, ‘isoscapes’, intuitive maps with grid data, across NSW combining new and pre-existing isotope measurements.
Doping with transition metals produced stability in bismuth oxide.
ANSTO is responsible for the Little Forest Legacy Site (LFLS) located within the ANSTO Buffer Zone boundary. This site, formerly known as the Little Forest Burial Ground (LFBG), was used by the Australian Atomic Energy Commission (AAEC) during the 1960’s to dispose of waste containing low levels of radioactivity and beryllium oxide (non-radioactive) in a series of shallow trenches. There has been regular monitoring of the site since 1966 and the results have been reported in ANSTO’s environmental monitoring reports.
ANSTO completed an international overnight dash for nuclear medicine earlier this week, chartering three planes to get potentially life-saving children’s cancer treatments from Japan to hospitals across Australia.
With the screening of the popular HBO series about Chernobyl, we asked our Nuclear Analysis team for their insights on key differences between the reactor in the TV series, a Generation II RBMK power reactor and ANSTO’s state of the art research reactor OPAL.
