Research is being undertaken through an Australian Research Council Discovery Project "Reconstructing Australia’s fire history from cave stalagmites", led by Professor Andy Baker at UNSW Sydney and Dr. Pauline Treble at ANSTO. The project aims to calibrate the fire-speleothem relationship and develop coupled fire and climate records for the last millennium in southwest Australia.

Renewed agreement with Japanese research organisations to bolster cooperation in neutron science and technology

ANSTO renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) operated by the High Energy Accelerator Research Organisation (KEK) and Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). Now broadened to include their partner Comprehensive Research Organization for Science and Society (CROSS), the signing took place early in the year and a celebratory workshop was held late July.

The Australian Industry Becquerel Traceability Program (AIBTP) provides facilities with direct measurement traceability to the Australian standard for the activity of radionuclides used in Positron Emission Tomography (PET).

The workshop will offer a comprehensive introduction to the latest scientific analytical tools which are exclusively offered across the facilities under the operation of ANSTO, including neutron, synchrotron and accelerator based techniques.

2020 Shorebirds Competition Summary and Results

Primary students across Australia were invited to create a public awareness poster for a threatened shorebird found in Australia for our 2020 Shorebirds Competition. In response to COVID-19, and the changes to children’s learning environments, we opened the competition early and also included categories for individual children to enter, as well as school children.
